AIFA Grants

The Allergy and Immunology Foundation of Australasia (AIFA) funds important new research in allergy, immunodeficiency and other immune diseases with the help of our new and loyal supporters. These include Professor Ann Kupa, CSL Behring, DBV Technologies, Viatris, ASCIA members and public donors.

The 2024 grant round opened on 25th March.

Grants to be awarded in 2024:

  • $40,000 AIFA New and Early Career Researcher Grants (4 x $10,000)
  • $20,000 AIFA Viatris Nurse Researcher of the Year
  • $20,000 AIFA Prof Ann Kupa Food Allergy Research Grant
  • $15,000 AIFA DBV Technologies Food Allergy Research Grant
  • $15,000 AIFA CSL Behring HAE Clinical Research Grant

The four grants of $10,000 encourage new research projects which do not yet have major funding. It is important that New and Early Career Researchers are supported to establish track records that will increase their chance of securing future research funding. These researchers include:

  • Early career scientist researchers working up to 5 years after completion of their PhD
  • Emerging clinician researchers such as advanced allergy/immunology trainees
  • Other health professionals such as dietitians, nurses, pharmacists

Grants are awarded as part of a competitive research grant program, with applications from Australia and New Zealand.

Expressions of Interest are due at midnight on 14th May . They are reviewed by AIFA's voluntary grant selection panel which comprises experts with extensive clinical and research experience in allergy and clinical immunology.  In June, selected candidates will be invited to submit a full grant application by midnight on 19th July. Grant awardees are announced at the annual ASCIA conference in September.

Grants are awarded on merit, with preference for early stage projects and early career researchers. Criteria for rating grant applications are originality and scientific quality, significance of outcomes, research methodology, team quality and capability.

The Chief Investigator of the project applying for an AIFA grant must be an ASCIA member to be eligible. ASCIA membership application
