Victorian Regional Community unites to raise money for AIFA
Every now and then someone in the community is inspired to stand up and organise an event to raise money for medical research into allergy through AIFA. Angie Waihape is doing just that in Ararat in regional Victoria. She has organised a raffle and auction this Saturday 15 August through a Facebook page called Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness. “My sister has two children with multiple severe food allergies”, says Angie. “I’m hoping to get our whole community on board to assist in achieving both awareness and a donation of $10,000 to assist researchers”.
Her fundraising committee includes Clare and Natalia. The trio are best friends and sister to a lady named Jackie, who has two boys with severe allergies.
“Being a witness to life threatening anaphylaxis has shaken me to my core and has me searching for ways to how we can stop this being the life so many Australians have to live,” Angie recounts. “The sheer terror in little Kohen’s eyes on that day has been burnt into me, his lips and face swelled to the point he no longer looked like the same baby. The boys are our inspiration, and we are very passionate about spreading awareness. We would love nothing more than to help the wonderful people who are working hard on finding a cure.”
Thanks for contributing to our work Angie and we hope that the auction is a success and that you enjoy the night!
